Rattled...but not yet defeated...

So...Friday night our tent arrived. Of course, I couldn't wait to try it out, so we decided to camp in the backyard. I had my Big Agnes 'Lulu' sleeping bag (without pad, it hadn't yet arrived) and basically wore my pajamas along with my Outdoor Research puffy jacket. I was quite tired from an afternoon of dancing with the residents (they had an entertainer come perform for their happy hour) so I was eager to head off to bed early and get my experiment started. I had tacos for dinner...this is an important detail for later.

The night started out okay enough, I was nice and toasty in my new sleeping bag. I even removed the puffy once I started getting a little too heated in my bag. After about thirty minutes, I drifted off to what I remember as being a nice peaceful sleep...then about midnight, all hell broke loose. I was woken up by chills and an overwhelming feeling of nausea...I was barely able to get the rainfly unzipped before the heaving began. Then standing half inside the tent and half out...I purged all of my dinner. I felt horrible. Being the trooper that I am I thought well I might as well return back to my sleeping bag and toughen out the rest of the night, because if this happens while I'm on the trail, I won't have anywhere else to escape to.

Well, after about an hour more of rest....same scenario strikes again. This time I am shaking uncontrollably with chills and cannot warm up. Horrible feeling! I totally bailed out this time....straight to the house....straight to my warm, warm bed!

Of course this whole experience completely rattled me and deeply shattered any little confidence that I had in myself regarding this trip.

Thanks to some uplifting words from my sister, my dad...I am trying not to let this bother me. My pad will be in by the end of this week, so I will be getting back on the horse as they say to try again next weekend. Wish me luck!

In other news, we scored four cases of MREs...so hopefully those will come in quite useful.
As always, any tips & suggestions are always greatly appreciated....along with positive thoughts & prayers!
